On the afternoon in May 25th there will be a workshop for those interested in learning how to set up their own beehives, manage them throughout the active season, and winter them successfully. If the event is rained out it will be held on the next possible Saturday afternoon. The workshop will be at one of Tug Hollow Honey's Bee Yards near McAlevy's Fort, PA. They will be conducted by EAS Master Beekeeper Andrew Jones, a commercial beekeeper, who has been actively involved in beekeeping since the early sixties. To download an application click on link: 2019 Beekeeping Workshop Application The emphasis of the workshops will be on setting up the hives, learning and recognising the needs of the bees, identifying bee diseases, pests, and predators, and knowing how to deal the major problems facing bees and beekeepers today. Part of the time will be spent working directly with the bees. You will need to have a bee veil. If you do not intend in keeping bees and don't care to own one there will be some on hand.

The book that is recommended for the workshop, and is an all around excellent resource for beekeeping management is: "The Beekeeper's Handbook" by Diana Sammataro , and Alphonse Avitabile now in its fourth edition. The book can be purchased in paperback for about twenty bucks.
